"The Long Earth" by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter takes readers on an exhilarating journey through a seemingly infinite series of parallel worlds, each accessible through a device known as a "Stepper." At the heart of the narrative…

Terry Pratchett has written some of my favourite books, and he's also written some books I found really boring. I love Aziraphale and Crowley and Rincewind and Esk, but not so much Sam Vines... This book is in the middle, but it doesn't…

It's a very interesting concept but it is a long hard read. A time slipping machine powered by a potato? Like really?

I don't think we're on Discworld anymore, Rincewind. I was delighted to read Pratchett and Baxter's take on the challenges and opportunities afforded by an accessible multi-verse. This is a series I recommend to anyone familiar with Terry…

Pratchett and Baxter team up to deliver an interesting twist to the modern era science fantasy genre. What if alternate versions of Earth were easily accessible to the human population? It's as simple as following instructions to place…

Pratchett and Baxter’s The Long Earth is the delightful first part in a humorous five novel sci-fi series. The premise is standard sci-fi fare, the existence of multi-dimension earths, but in the hands of these authors it is fleshed out in…

An ‘ok’ story. I was hoping for a better wrap up to the story. Oh well. I have since found out there are additional books in the series. I do not think I will read any further thank you.

Please consider this a mini-review for the entire 'Long Earth' series, which includes: -The Long Earth -The Long War -The Long Mars -The Long Utopia -The Long Cosmos I really enjoyed the concept that these books discussed, in…

A scientist discovers that there are indeed parallel Earths and there is a comparatively simple technology which allows people to skip between them. In fact, there may be people who have the ability naturally and have been jumping…

This is a very strange book combining wierd gadgetry & increasingly bizarre creatures with multiple dimensions. Like fantasy meets steam-punk meets Wagon Train on an endless chain of other Earths. Left very open-ended for the sequel. I…

Slow going at first; had to start it two times, but once I got into the authors' writing style, I finished it in one day. I guess it was slow going because of the background and character establishment. Interesting new "universe(s)" to…

Don't step, don't step to me. I like coffee and water, don't step to me.

Very enjoyable read, little hints of humor and existential questions... an interesting change from Discworld looking forward to reading the rest of this series...

What a fantastic book! It was an epic story with very interesting and lovable characters. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

The idea was interesting and the characters weren't bad, but the profanity and lewd remarks put me right off. I didn't finish it.

I loved this book. I LOVED it! It doesn't happen often that I literally can't put a book down. I loved the detail that was put into describing all these new and worlds, some of which are not so different from our own, and increasingly more…

This book is not what I'd expected from either of these authors, and that made it jarring at first. By the end, however, I found my expectations shattered in the best possible way. The very structure of the book made this easier, as its…

Terry Pratchett created one of the most unusually populated fantasy worlds with his Discworld series, and this first entry in a series co-written with Stephen Baxter is grounded more in the science-fiction genre. It still has plenty of…

This has to be ranked among Sir Terry Pratchett's books. To be fair, I am rating this book after only reading a little over half of the novel, but this is really boring stuff to be coming from the mind of Terry Pratchett. So far, the…

Creates an interesting setting - a long perhaps endless string of parallel earths with gifted people "stepping" from one earth to another. However, this novel is all about setting up the background for a series of novels. Considered by…

Terry Pratchett's work is wonderful. This book is no exception. Wonders await, peppered with trademark Pratchett humor.
Jul 27, 2013siharris rated this title 3.5 out of 5 stars
Terry Pratchett writes clever, funny but silly fantasy novels, and Stephen Baxter writes hard sci-fi with lots of complicated physics and eon spanning timescales. As such I struggled to imagine what a collaboration between the two would…

Quite a departure for Pratchett. Not funny, but a good read. The point of the book is not clear, though.

There is a story in here somewhere. Perhaps they could have narrowed the plot line, or lack thereof, and made a series of stories that had some sort of cohesion and resolution.

This book looked more interesting on the shelf than it turned out to be. The plot seems to go nowhere and the writing is disjointed. I'm pretty sure they're setting up for a book two, but I'll give it a miss.
