Young Charlotte sails from her proper English upbringing to reunite with her family in America. The families enlisted to watch over her were no-shows, so she must manage unexpected conditions and learn to interact with crew members. The…

I generally do not enjoy maritime novels as they seem slow and covered in ship jargon. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle was a refreshing exception to this standard. The story is about Charlotte Doyle, a young woman who has just…
Charlotte Doyle, a thirteen-year-old girl, is returning home to Rhode Island from her school in England to visit her family over the summer during the year 1832. She has to board a ship known as "The Seahawk" with two other families. The…
I really enjoyed this swashbuckling adventure story. Charlotte learned about herself and how strong she was. She had many scary things happen, but faced them all. It was very suspenseful. I would recommend this story to middle school…

I have read this two times now. I thought maybe after further understanding it, it wouldn't be as boring. But, it just "bleh". Honestly it's boring, and just when you think it will become exciting it ends up really being nothing.
One of the most AMAZING books I have ever encountered! Exquisite writing and plot is convincing. Charlotte is very proper and precise, but then she spends a month or so on a ship with all males... Timeless Classic

A sea story in the same vein as the excellent Jacky Faber series, but rather more serious. I liked the ending, even if the heroine potentially exchanged one form of bondage for another..

It was a pretty good book, although Charlotte made me bang my head against the bedroom wall three or four times at the beginning. She's so stupid!! Take a hint, girl! She smartens up after a while though. However, I do think that, given…

Fantasic! This is one of two books that really fueled my passion for reading at an early age. I've read it myself a few times and will read it with my kids, great book!
