Great book. Interesting and original, great characters, and a cute romance.
Awesome :D I loved it, though i didnt like the ending "that" much...it should have been more romantic......
Loved this book. I found it on a link from tamora pierces website and didn't think it looked to good but it was amazing. I'm definetly reading it again.
If I could give a book 6 stars, this would be the one. A staff member at Chapters said it was Stiefvater's best work, and I have to agree. Left me wanting more, in the very best way.
This was so good. Talk about getting pulled into a book. I'm reading this one again for sure.Great characters.
Amazing, amazing, amazing, AMAZING book. So great. Loved the chracters, setting, mythology, plot, ending, everything. Like Maggie's other books, the first couple chapters are kind of slow, but boy, did it ever speed up. I understand why there can't be a second, but I wish there were other books about the water horses. SO incredibly awesome.
An addicting and engaging read with characters that seem to fit their age and setting. Look forward to more of this author in the future. Very fun and enjoyable.
I'm a fan of Maggie Steifvater, and she did not disappoint in this novel. Her characters are deep, complicated, and incredibly "real," and the imagery she creates in this novel is incredible. As a horse person myself, the way she describes some of the behaviors of the animals took thoughts and feelings that are extremely difficult to express and put them into words so simple and beautiful that it stunned me at times. Maggie is a very gifted writer, and if you are interested in fantasy or mythology and have a love for animals (horses especially), you will not be disappointed by this read.
Though the writing style is a bit sparse, so much is expressed, and the most vivid pictures arise. This is a beautiful sombre book to read on a long rainy day. The heroine, Puck, is one of the best I've read in awhile, with shades of Scout (To Kill a Mockingbird) in her at times. All the characters have great depth, to the point where I wish this was a series, even though the ending wrapped up quite satisfactorily. I highly reccommend this very engaging read. I also like the setting of this novel: a forgotten British island, sometime in the middle of the last century, full of real people who work through their hardships with a combination of dreams, persistence, and courage. Maggie Stiefvater has created a world just on the edge of reality, that feels like a history that's been forgotten. Also, there's killer horses that come from the sea.
