While it's a good book to read, I felt the reviews were misleading in that the story was not at all scary (unless maybe you are 12 or younger) and the language used didn't seem to fit the setting of the book. Hopefully the upcoming movie will be good :)

I started the summer reading King's latest novel, "11/22/63". It was the first thing of his I'd read, and I decided it was time to go back to the beginning and read "Carrie." Amazing to think this was a first novel - the structure of it is intricate and innovative. There are some flaws, sure, but it's still a great read.

King's first published novel, and 'way, 'way over-the-top! But fun, in a sick sort of way. Sissy Spacek movie from 1970s (with a very young Travolta!) is terrific, later version not. This ultimately sad tale of the bullying of a quite strange young girl in high school and her enormous rage and revenge on them all, still resonates after all these years but while I would have rated it a bit higher a few years ago, having read it several times since the 1970s the shock and awe value has worn off a bit. (Doesn't seem to have happened with others of his books as yet, though, particularly SALEM'S LOT and THE STAND, and their tv adaptions, all terrific imo!)

This was definitely a creepy book. However, it was not as scary as some of the other stuff I have read. I was hoping for a thriller, but this was alright. The only character I have a problem with is Tommy. Would an average guy take a girl to his SENIOR prom just because a girl asked him? When you think about it, I don't think really anyone would do that just because your girlfriend/boyfriend asked you to.

A very good book by Stephen King. I feel that it's aimed for teenagers in this case while his others are for adults. A short book as well and an easy read. But I wasn't disappointed at all. The supernatural aspects of this complemented the reality of the bullying towards a poor girl who has done nothing wrong except for have the mother she had. Ending was sad as well. I really believe this should be reading that should be required because it doesn't focus on the supernatural very much but on poor Carrie who has been picked on her whole life for just being herself. It shows how far bullying can push a person even though it's highly improbable for the things that happened in the book to happen. It made me think.

I love this book! The scary part to me is how much everyone hates her and no one except the gym teacher cares for her
