What a wonderful idea of author Valentine Davies that possibly Santa Claus in a real person. In the hands of Davies book, Director George Seaton wrote a wonderful screenplay. It stars the best Santa on any film ever made in Edmund Gwenn. He wasn't trying to convince anyone that he was Santa. His name is Kris Kringle and he is Santa Claus. Maureen O'Hara plays mother to a young Natalie Wood who plays her daughter. They meet Kris Kringle and are amazed how convincing he is as Santa. He can speak other languages for instance. Now some will say this is a lightweight movie. I would ask that you bear in mind in 1948 this movie won Best Supporting Actor for Edmund Gwenn, Best Original Writing for the author Valentine Davies and Best Screenplay for Director George Seaton. Over the years it is a holiday favorite on TV, but why not get the family together for your own Christmas party. It is especially good for young children, but adults receive the joy of seeing the smiles on their children's faces.

Timeless classic in both original black and white and colorized versions. Don't forget to watch the bonus features that cover bringing this film to the public - awesome!

A holiday classic, if you are ever to see it, go for this version, not the terrible remake!

I can't believe this is the first time I've seen this one. Adorable, but doesn't come close to Capra's "It's A Wonderful Life" in my book, though.
