In the 1500s, as now, evil begins its courtship cloaked in light. And the heart embraces what it should reject, forgetting that once it had a truer lover. With a kiss, evil will ravage body, soul, and mind. Yet there remains hope, because the heart knows no bounds. Love will prove greater than lust. Sacrifice will overcome seduction. And blood will flow, because the battle for the heart is always violently opposed.

I should have been suspicious of this book when there was no brief summary on the inside flap, but rather testimonies on how people enjoyed it. But I read the first page and it sounded interesting because it was a period story. It began fairly well until a character in black named Vlad appeared. With him , a corny plot, unbelievable characters and stilted dialogue, I could not believe it. I was curious how such a book would come together. It really never did. Then I noticed the tag on the spine labeling it "Christian suspense fiction". It seems that a book with a Christian storyline should be inspirational, comforting, uplifting rather than dark, forboding and negative. This is not real Christianity!!

This book has romance, adventure, mystery, and action! It's about a man that has to protect this family. After meeting them he notices things that are off. Full of twists and turns this book is mind blowing!!

Possibly Ted Dekker's best novel in the Books of History Chronicles. An allegory of the greatest love story set in the 1700s, but told with a modern flare.

Another gripping tale from Ted Dekker. It is not one that keeps you glued to the book from start to finish but certainly well worth the read.
