I'm retired, having worked in both public and private sector social service agencies in Ontario, Alberta and BC since 1972. If you are a parent of a child with learning difficultied and read this book... beware! All is not as bright and shiny as one might be led to believe.
Not all provinces provide the same or the same quality of service. To have your child receive the services available through Ministries of Education, Health and Social Services, you'll have to fight and fight long and hard. You'll need to determine, upfront, that you'll not take 'no' for an answer. Even if your efforts succeed, you would be well advised to seek private [pay-for-it-yourself] help for your child... if you can afford it.
Thoroughly evaluate any organization you are considering BEFORE spending a penny. Reputable providers will be glad to assist you to provide the very best for your child. Finally, don't forget to check and see what income tax deductions you are allowed. Good luck!
