Add a CommentAmazing and engaging sci-fi audiobook, and I was fortunate to have enough time to listen to it all as I got hooked and it would have been hard to stop!
If I can't understand it without an explanation, then I can't understand it with an explanation, so I'll leave my hundreds of questions unanswered.
One of Murakami's best books!
Obviously, a few things are 'lost in translation'. Although Murakami does speak and write English, this novel was written in Japanese. I found that the develpment of characters and setting placements, to be extermely well written. The only negative I can point to in this story, is that, at times, Murakami tends to ramble on a bit, and can be repetitive, albeit the areas of redundancy are parts of the plot he does not want to be misunderstood, and therefore he emphasizes parts while being redundant.
All-in-all, I am very glad I listened to this work. My previous high for a novel was the 36 Discs that Stephen King's Gunslinger series ends with. This book took 38 discs, and unless your retired, off work, or are well enough off not to work, you will need to renew the three weeks check out time at least once. I listened to the 38 discs in about 27 days (1 renewal)
I remained interested in the story during all 38 CD's of it. I wish it didn't have so much detail though especially about Hushakama. I would have preferred that when the couple escape from 1Q84 it was clearly stated they were back in 1984. Maybe the story lost something in translation to English.
