Lovely story, cleaner than a PG13 movie although not completely suitable for my 9 year-old.

This is a complex story of a girl from Iceland orphaned at a young age and taken in by a loving uncle in Scotland. But when her uncle dies, her aunt and cousins turn on her and send her to labor in a boarding school. The book chronicles her running away from one situation after another while she learns about herself and to be more understanding of others. Its quite interesting and I found compelled to finish it.

Remake of Jane Eyre that was an enjoyable rendition of the story taking place instead in the late 1950's.
