""Obama was born in Kenya"..."Obama is a Muslim and a terrorist sympathizer"..."Obama is a Communist who wants to institute death panels"...The extent to which these undying lies have taken hold in the American mindset shows just how ruthless, destructive, and all-powerful the right-wing machine--hijacked by extremists in the media and fueled by corporate coffers--has become in America. And no one has inspired such venom as our nation's current president, who has been targeted by Republicans for a uniquely insidious brand of character assassination. In his characteristic on-the mark arguments sure to appeal to anyone on the Left or in the Center, talk show host and syndicated columnist Bill Press shows how the peculiar nature of Obama Hating subverts issue-driven debate and threatens not only the outcome of the 2012 election but the future of the American democratic system"--

I agree, wallyblu, I also have never seen nor heard the "mainstream" media "repeat lies" about Pres. Obama, as voisjoe1 suggests. In fact, I observe the the opposite. When you have ABC News correspondents who used to work in the White House under a Democratic president (Bill Clinton), the liberal and favorable bias is evident.

As for the Iraq war, even Samantha Power, senior advisor to Pres. Obama and Cass Sunstein's wife, has acknowledged at UC-Berekely that al-Qaeda had cells in Iraq in 2003, when UN Human Rights activist Sergio de Mello was assasinated by al-Qaeda in a suicide bombing. As Power says this was "the first sign that al-Qaeda was in fact in Iraq, when people who had opposed the war, for the most part, thought it wasn't and that was part of Bush's hype..." She concludes that it was not hype. It was real.

A better understanding of Barack Obama's background in the 1980s can be found in Stanley Kurtz's book "Radical in Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism"--which is footnoted in-depth, many with primary sources.

“The Obama Hate Machine” documents the hatred spewed by the media against previous presidents, which at times was awful, but then indicates that this type of hateful speech reached new heights against Obama during the primaries and after his election. The book lists the lies that became prominent in the media, such as Obama was a racist Marxist neo-fascist dictator Muslim terrorist Nazi foreigner. The media then went on to use all of these descriptions to fight against his policies. There is an excellent section, where the author lists and describes 61 publications written by right-wing authors. After the exposition of these hateful and mendacious texts, the book then goes on to discuss Fred Koch and his two sons who set up the “Kochtopus” which funded over 50 foundations and groups to spread propaganda and pseudo-scientific and pseudo-economic theories to enable them to increase corporate profits with decreased regulation and tax breaks. Near the end of the book, the author discusses the media, which includes the mainstream media and Fox News. Fox News is basically a right-wing propaganda machine during the early morning and at night. The mainstream media, now cut to the bone during the last twenty years, often just repeats lies from Fox or right-wing texts without really examining them in depth or spreads the lies for a short time before debunking them. An example given prior to Obama would be the second Iraq War started by Bush/Cheney using totally and blatantly false information to dupe the American public. The lies about Obama listed previously are examples of the propaganda spread by Fox News and then later picked up by the mainstream media.
