"Born during the sunrise--an auspicious beginning--the Azumas' newborn son is named Hikaru, which means 'light.' But during one play date, his mother notices that her son is slightly different from the other children. In this alternately heartwarming and bittersweet tale, a young mother tries to cope with both the overwhelming discovery of her child's autism and the trials of raising him while keeping her family together. This is a story that resonates not only for those whose families have been affected by autism, but also for all past, present, and future parents"--Publisher's website.

This book on the joys, challenges and practical problems of parents of an autistic child is by japanese authoress Keiko Tobe.

I found the story very simple and yet I learned quite a bit about how parent's coped with an autistic child and what they had to deal with on a societal level.

Japanese web-links (yes not translated) are provided in the book to show what a "support book" is for an autistic child. Translation notes are provided in vol 1 and vol 2 and provide and will be enjoyed by those who like to learn about other cultures.

I look forward to reading vol. 2 and learning more about autism in this way. This book is read from the back and from right to left -- don't let the different cultural bent put you off this gem.
