I enjoyed this mystery, although I had been unaware of the genre of military mystery before I stumbled upon this in the "New Fiction" at the front of the Library. A familiarity with military acronyms (and in particular British ones) would be helpful to a reader, as there is no glossary provided. As for the medical and police / crime acronyms and jargon, I found them in the Oxford Encyclopedic Dictionary no problem.
