My 2nd book by Ruth Downie and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I enjoy stories from other time periods with a glimpse of life then. The characters are interesting and I like the little bits of humor that show up every once in a while. The stories are very much like Steven Saylor's books.

Another terrific mystery from Ruth Downing!!! Her Medicus series of the Roman Empire in Britannia even has the Emperor Hadrian showing up. Downing does a wonderful entertaining job of giving us a peek at that time period. She adds just enough humor and even a few belly laughs while keeping you guessing until the very end. So much fun to read her books!

Love this series. Ruso and Tilla are great characters and the story is fascinating - based loosely on historic fact.

It’s been so long since Downie’s last book (2010) that I’d begun to despair of ever seeing another Russo book. Hurrah! The wait was worth it. This is an excellent entry in the series. Now begins the long wait for the next one. Hopefully this isn’t the end.
