3 Stars. Pushing the limits is a 392 page book by Katie McGarry. The novel revolves around Echo Emerson, a high school teen. Overnight, Echo goes from “popular” girl with hot boyfriend, to a loner with odd scars on her arms. Despite some support from her small group of friends, Echo just wants to be treated the same and everything to go back together. Her life begins to change when Noah Hutchins barges into her life. With is arrogant attitude and a girl for every night personality, Echo has no reason to want to be any where near him. But when a opportunity opens itself to Noah and Echo, they have to choose to listen to their heart or their mind. Honestly I was surprised by all the AMAZING reviews for this book. I wasn’t overly impressed. Echo and Noah constantly annoyed me, and I hated that Noah referred to Echo as ‘baby’. I also didn’t love the concept of the storyline and how some things ended up. Noah and Echo’s relationship did pull she heart strings though. When Noah didn’t shy away from Echo’s scars, my heart melted. Noah’s brothers were so adorable, I found myself smiling over everything they said. So overall this book was good, but there is a small chance I will be reading any of the other books in this series by Katie McGarry.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this novel as much as I did. It was amazingly written! The dual perspective provided a fantastic understanding of both characters. It was interesting to read their feelings on each other through both perspectives. Both Noah and Echo are characters I grew to love. McGarry took an excellent take on the classic good girl meets bad guy situation. Both these characters had issues and qualities which were emphasized by not only the writing but also the characters around them. I appreciated the fact that this author had these characters communicate in a mature and realistic way. They spoke to each other seriously and wanted to improve and build on their relationship. You can’t help but fall in love and root for Noah and Echo, who I personally grew to love with every novel even though they weren’t all based on them. I think this story has a great friendship dynamic and represented what a true friendship looks like very well. Although this story isn’t your classic cheesy romance novel doesn’t mean that the love in the book is any less magical. Once you start Pushing the Limits- trust me, you won’t be able to stop. 4/5 Stars.

I appreciated how the romance grew steadily in this story and that the author portrayed kids that didn't come from a perfect background, however there were points where I felt the story lagged.

If you liked Simone Elkeles series Perfect Chemistry you will enjoy this new series from Katie McGarry. Something bad happened to Echo at the hands of her bi-polar mother which changed her whole world. Now Echo is on the edges of the world she used to inhabit trying to decide whether or not she wants to return to that part of her life or start something new. When she is assigned to tutor the "bad boy" of her class Echo finds someone as lost as she is. Maybe together they can find what they're looking for. Don't miss book two Dare You To.

The concept of bad-boy meets (relatively-)good-girl is developed well in this story; their personal troubles are what bring them closer together as they lean on each other, a tried-and-true romance tactic that is wielded excellently here with the dual POVs. Another aspect of the romance very much appreciated by moi was that once Echo and Noah got serious about each other, they didn't play games. They spoke to each other seriously, they communicated, and that one misunderstanding was resolved very quickly (or else I would've thrown a tantrum, because I detest misunderstandings used as plot devices :P). In essence, there wasn't too much angst related to the relationship, and because the reader sees them confronting their personal problems together, it's easy to grow to cheer for them. Something else--there is a lot of drama. Echo struggles with her new stepmother, her therapy sessions, her sometimes-friends and her idea of normalcy; Noah's dealing with the foster care system, his counseling sessions and his stoner friends. But I do believe it's all dealt with reasonably; realistic solutions are presented (e.g. Echo decides to leave town for a while to give her stepmother some space). Both Noah and Echo exhibit growth, and in this character-driven novel, that's really all we need.

This is the best YA book in the history of the YA books! Seriously! It was so hard to put it down that I pulled an all nighter to finish it. I only found out about this book at the beginning to 2013 (maybe February?) and this is my third time reading it! It hilarious, exciting, swoon-worthy, and just perfect. You HAVE to read it or else you'll miss out on such an amazing book!

It was interesting to begin with and at times, I like their relationship, but mostly I found this cliche unoriginal. Which, of course, is weird to expect, but I wanted it to be unique. And I found that Noah and Echo didn't really have anything much to talk about other than their problems.

Noah x Echo

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal.

But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again...
