This EP is a solid offering from early-career Lorde, although not overly essential to her discography; hit song “Royals” eventually made it to her debut album, Pure Heroine, and the rest of the songs from this EP were included as bonus tracks on the extended edition. On it’s own however, this project is worth your time. Opener “Bravado” is grand and imposing, featuring a strong vocal performance, “Royals” was a chart success for a reason, and “Million Dollar Bills” and “The Love Club” are light, fun tunes. “Biting Down” is relatively weak; the songwriting stands out here as being repetitive and uneventful, to the point where it can’t be salvaged by the notably strong production. Overall: worth hearing, but nothing spectacular, check it out if you were a fan of her more ambitious albums, 3/5.
