This is a 1993 western historical docudrama directed by Walter Hill, based loosely on the events leading up to the surrender of Geronimo in 1886.
The film shows that so much of what we think we know about the Indian campaigns is wrong and that the Army is generally depicted as the enemy of the Apache.
In many cases, however, it also depicts that the people who were most sympathetic to their plight were those soldiers---good soldiers and that bad people are mostly at the top of the establishment.
It is an eye-opening and profoundly thought-provoking docudrama.

Beautiful cinematography. Monument Valley, and such. Lackluster script. Plodding, contrived. Patric and his fake Southern drawl, sympathetic to the plight of the Apache/Chiricahua just felt phony. Old-timers Hackman and Duvall didn't contribute much, nor did baby-faced greenhorn/narrator Damon. I was hoping for more from director Walter Hill (The Warriors).
