The Church has been taught to stand up for what we believe in. I don't think we've been taught "well." We can engage with the LGBT community without compromising our convictions. Kaltenbach writes from a unique perspective. He calls his mom "loud and proud," while his dad remained hidden for years--but both gay. He's seen the ugly treatment that gay people have endured and he's seen people who love gays, but don't know how to live that out and still keep their convictions. Kaltenbach writes to both sides of a sensitive issue, and does a good job.

Both Caleb's unique experience and engaging style are highlights in this thought-provoking book about the church and how to love it's diverse members. Who are the diverse members? Anyone that is not "us." While the main focus are LBGTQ persons, they are not the only folks being left out of the church. I recommend this book for those who know what the bible says, but don't like it, for those who don't believe what it says, as well as those who wonder what it's truth means in their own life and the lives of those they love. Its messy, in a good way.
