Book 4 of 5 is one of my favorites so far. Secret caves, creep monks, & a mysterious garden all come together to make a fantastic suspense story.

We are led away from Schongau when Simon & Magdalena go on a pilgrimage to the monastery in Andechs. Of course what "Hangman's Daughter" tale would be complete if the hangman Jakob Kuisl did show up?! Rather than solve the mystery together, this time each of our characters would be taken on their own separate journey toward the same conclusion. Even Simon & Magdalena's 2 small sons would play a part in the action. It took me a few chapters to find my groove in this story, but add a little mad science into the mix, & I was hooked!

Age recommendation: 14 & up

On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 8.
