Experts estimate that nearly a third of the population will self-injure at some point in their lives-with teenage girls having the highest risk. Self-injury disorder is just one of the topics explored in the Understanding Mental Disorders series. All titles in the series examine what the disorder is, what causes it, what it is like to live with it, and how or whether it can be treated or cured. Fully documented quotes, full-color photographs and charts, and organizations to contact lists add to the value of these books for use in student research. Book jacket.

This book should absolutely come with a content/trigger warning. There are multiple images of self injury, implements, and drug use. Potentially triggering images are on the top right of page 13, top right of page 21, top left of page 40, bottom left of page 44, bottom right of page 53, and the top right of page 61.
I also would like to say that if you are struggling with self-injury that I personally found this book to do significantly more harm than it did to help. I would not recommend this book.
