When I saw this, I thought it would be an album of remixes. It isn't. It isn't a Miles Davis album either. The slightly scary cover art, which is in a much too recent style to go with Mr. Davis' albums, should have clued me in.

So what is it? Robert Glasper (and a whole bunch of guest musicians) has taken samples from Miles' originals and re-worked them into completely new songs, mostly R&B and quieter rap, mostly pretty sounding (though with the occasional offensive lyric) and with an understated hip-hop beat. This is actually a collaboration between the living musicians and Miles, who died twenty-four years before this was released. Whether he would have liked it is unknown; the reviewers below didn't like it because it wasn't what they had expected but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. It's well-performed and recorded, and often quite beautiful.

A total disappointment to a long-time Miles Davis fan. To even call this a Miles Davis album is
borderline sacrilegious. There's almost no Miles Davis on here - mostly noodling or lazy vocals from guest "musicians" who have very little in common musically with Miles - especially including Robert Glasper, who produced this abomination. Whether you're a fan of 50's-60's-era bebop Miles, 60's-70's fusion Miles, or later-period Miles, you would be well-advised to stick to the releases from those eras. I love (and still listen to) "Sketches of Spain", "Kind of Blue", "Miles in the Sky", "In a Silent Way". "Bitches Brew", and many others, and I can safely say that "Everything's Beautiful" does not compare favorably to any of those (quite the opposite). I gave it 2 stars only because Miles is in there (somewhere); otherwise, it barely deserves 1 star.

Modern remixes with heavy (and very intrusive) beats, with vocals from current performers (E. Badou) and rappers (lila J). Very little of Miles Davis is detectable in the music.
