This was such a great read. Not your typical knitting book with many charts and lines of instructions. It was full of interesting tips, and was pretty relaxed, which I love because I can never be bothered to match exact yarns, and I will strip back my projects for an error, but oftentimes I also won't. My favourite thing to consider is to simply change the needle size until you get the suggested gauge - that is brilliant! I do knit tight, and this is unlikely to ever change and I love the simplicity and common sense approach in this entire book.

If you are a novice knitter, there are two books you want. One is Maggie Righetti's "Knitting in Plain English." The other is "Knitting Without Tears." As you progress in knitting, you will return to these books time and again.

Zimmerman's text and illustrations are easy to understand, and the writing style is enjoyable. Most importantly, the attitude is relaxed, realistic, and fun. If the library ever deaccessions this gem, knitters will weep in their yarn.

Elizabeth Zimmerman's writing is clear and amusing. She shows readers how to understand what they are doing, so that readers can apply these methods to making their own creative knits.

Zimmerman does not want he readers to fret over difficulties. She gives the easiest solution to knitting problems, including the problem of a project the reader can't stand looking at anymore. She suggests the reader leave it where another knitter might find it, and just walk away!

I really enjoy EZ's writing - she's funny, a big personality and very knowledgeable about knitting. The book is full of great advice and tips, but it's also just a good read.

The very best book for learning how to knit sweaters. Zimmerman has a no nonsense approach that makes everything clear and managable.
