In The Four Last Things (SMP, 1997), readers were introduced to Michael Appleyard and his wife Sally when their daughter was kidnapped by a beautiful but damaged woman known as Angel. Now, Taylor raises the stakes in his finely crafted trilogy by traveling back a generation in time to Angel's childhood in a village near London in 1970.

A strange, slow-moving 'mystery' whose characters I found very unengaging. I don't think any of them were likeable and had trouble understanding anyone's motives for the way they behaved. I really didn't get the appeal of the book and can't understand how they came to the decision to turn it into a tv movie (albeit highly changed).
