Jacques Tati's masterpiece is as fantastic as it is unique. It is not a film for everyone. There is no coherent plot, no real characters, barely any dialogue beyond the occasional snippet of conversation overheard at a distance. The movie follows a variety of people as they navigate the glass and steel maze of a modernist Paris suburb. Not only a pointed satire of modern life and modern architecture, but also a delightful celebration of humanity.

An oldie and goldie (1967) and French which won’t bother anybody even with subtitles because most of the ridiculously funny, effervescent, madcap, sparkling, droll, laugh-out-loud humour is visual – a sort of throwback to Buster Keaton and the silent films but done with typically Gallic panache. If you haven’t seen it, you owe yourself two hours of unbridled smiles.

Can't recommend this film too highly. A masterpiece of visual comedy, as great as Chaplin, Keaton and the great screen comedians, this film is sheer pleasure from beginning to end, but stay with it as it builds from scene to scene to an extraordinary climax with the disastrous opening of a new restaurant in Tati's ultra "modern " city of the 60s, viewed thru M. Hulot's eyes.

Classic 1960s comedy. Playtime features the adventures of Monsieur Hulot as he stumbles around Paris trying to get to his business meeting. The results are chaotic. Released one year before Blake Edwards "The Party", Playtime shares a similar vibe - if not plot - of that classic Peter Seller's comedy.
