Good examination of the band Pavement in all its shambolic glory.

"I've got style, miles and miles, so much style that it's wasting."
While Nirvana and the grunge gang totally hog the spotlight, we really know that Pavement was the coolest and most idiosyncratic American band of the 90s. In a better, more just world, their songs would be on jukeboxs everywhere and teens would be sporting Pavement shirts. Oh well. For Pavement fans, this book is an enjoyable, quirky, informative, and brisk history of the unlikely indie heroes from Stockton, CA. British writer Jovanovic relies on all the band members reflections (thrill to the beef between Malkmus and Billy Corgan! marvel at original drummer Gary Young's description of Courtney Love as "a big fat ugly woman") and packs the book full of photos and memorabilia. Nobody can accuse him of having any new insight into the band, but it will make you nostalgic and send you running for those records, which are still more creative, eccentric, and sprawling than 90% of current music. Includes an extensive discography. Also check out the Pavement DVD, "Slow Century."
