I think it is a brilliant indictment of how willing people are to give up their freedom for so-called "security"! Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving do a great job, as do John Hurt and Stephen Fry! Also, I love the 1812 overture, so a added bonus!

In a post-war London, a fascist government rules, hiding truths in order to control and oppress its people. The population is lied to and abused, promised security, but not freedom. That is, until V. Disguised in a mask of Guy Fawkes, a man who attempted to blow up the houses of Parliament in 1605, V is a vigilante. He uses unconventional and terrorist-like tactics to fight and rebel against this government. He works quietly, he works quickly, and he works alone–until he saves the life of a young woman named Evey, who becomes his ally in this fight

C'mon, darlings - There's gotta be 2 versions of this film. Right? There's the pathetically dismal version that I saw. And then there's that other "wow!" version that so many others have raved about.

I mean, this film having 2 distinctly different versions is the only acceptable reason that I can think of to explain why there's such a divided opinion over this picture. Some people (like me) saw the crap version - While others enjoyed the thrill of viewing the dynamite version. What else could it be?

Anyway - I wasn't in the least bit impressed with Natalie Portman as Evey. The minute that she had her head shaved I suspected that she was desperately wanting us to perceive her as being some sort of modern-day "Joan of Arc", or something to that effect.

But - Let's face it, darlings - Natalie Portman is a mediocre actress, at best. Why-oh-why are so many people making such a fuss over this woman's so-called "talents" as an actress? Why?

A great film. Politically and socially relevant. A film with depth and meaning. Not for those looking for a brainless action extravaganza.

We make a tradition of watching this movie every November 5th. Each time, it makes us look at ourselves and moral grey areas. Another cult-classic

Quite of a childish movie... black VS white, good VS evil... very predictable a Hollywood wanna-be European film... Portman acting was poor, really poor.
