I really liked the subject matter of this book. However, it had an awkward style for reading aloud. At the beginning, the sentences were very short. The sentences increased in length going through the book. The last eleven pages of text were all one sentence. That was not best practice, or a good model for literature, in my opinion. I am glad we read it, but it didn't make it to our favorites list.

Simple and perfect. This children's book about family, seasons, good work, taking joy in the everyday, and self-reliance is close to my heart.

Historical. Family. Hard work. Farm life. Enjoyment.
