I was disappointed with this film,it is a sleeper. Watch A Man For All Seasons,1966 about Thomas More instead, more entertaining & thought provoking,no wonder it won an Oscar.

Beautiful, moving film. I thought this rendition was far better than Franco Zeffirelli's "Fratello Sole, Sorella Luna." Zeffirelli turned Francis into a Gaya-worshiping hippy, removing lots of very important details of the life of the saint. Bradford Dilman makes a gorgeous St. Franis of Assisi (at times he looked just like Charlton Heston). Beautiful Dolores Heart gives us a much more convincing St. Clara than teen-acting Judy Bowker. This movie shows the dissent that started among the order even before Francis was dead. No breathtaking effects like with Zeffirelli's, but worth watching for the historical accuracy.

Very good movie, although some key parts were left out, such as Francis' father disowning him. Otherwise, it was a great movie!
