Written by one of my students:

Everything was put into the world for a reason. In this classic book, written by Hildegarde H. Swift and illustrated by Lynd Ward, a happy little red lighthouse lives happily on the Hudson River in New York City, until one day a giant grey bridge is built which overpowers the small lighthouse with its bright beams of light.

The main character is a little red lighthouse, which is very proud that it is helping boats stay safe with his light. The fascinating illustrations bring the great waterways of New York City to life. The author did a great job describing the lighthouses’ emotions, and this book is a good choice to be read to children who enjoy picture books with detailed illustrations.
