A tribute to the wisdom and skill of Salazar in dealing with the predatory World War II British and Americans on behalf of Portugal, a poor, weak country subject to German land and air attack. The British, who had gained wrongfully worldwide for centuries, and done nothing to stop Hitler when they easily might have, were naturally annoyed, when they finally decided to fight, safe from invasion behind the Channel and backed by US aid, that Salazar would not willingly sacrifice Portuguese interests for the British cause. The Americans were even more unreasonable. Anglo-American hypocrisy still informs criticisms of Salazar's neutrality policy.
