It was great to dive back into the world of Cas, Anna, Thomas and Carmel. This book just hit all my buttons and I devoured it. It was so spooky when Cas started seeing Anna. He couldn't know for sure if he was hallucinating or Anna was actually haunting him. Now normally a relationship between a human and ghost is not something that really works for me, but Kendare Blake does it, she writes them so well (see also Stacey Kade's The Ghost and the Goth series for another believable human/ghost romance though it's definitely not as dark as Cas/Anna). Also, secret society! England! smart-ass ghost-hunting girl! Those are some of my favorite things, although it took me a while to warm up to Jestine. This is were the plot of the second book really picks up. OMG the Suicide Forest! So creepy! Lots of creepy things happen in this world and it's just the right amount of scare for me. The climactic scenes really up-ed the ante and I was on the edge of my seat frantically flipping pages to see what would happen. I really don't want to give you any spoilers, so I'll just say that the ending was perfect and heartbreaking and bittersweet and still left me wanting more. Though this series only had two books I can only hold out hope that the author will write more of the world one day, I loved it that much.
