Despite a great cast of actors and some good cinematography and of course the classic adventure story from Jack Kerouac, this movie fell way short of illustrating the spirit and adventure of the book. This movie was depressing, slow and out of touch with what Kerouac portrayed in the book. Where is the youthful wonder of a life yet to be lived? Where is the excitement of trying new things and experiencing new things and exploring the uncharted territories of youth and imagination captured in Kerouac's prose? This movie needs to be made all over again. The Beat generation wasn't a depressive episode in the annals of history, it was the generation that heralded in the 60s. Full of excitement, imagination, potential and life waiting to be explored and discovered. That was the zeitgeist of the era. Not a trip down the road of boring depressing Americana with a few moments of partying that is depicted in this movie. Do over please...
