The second book in ‘The Blackwell Pages’, ‘Odin’s Ravens’ is every bit as good as the first. The title, unlike that of the first book, ‘Loki’s Wolves’ which one will correctly assume has many fight scenes, implies a sense of mystery and foreboding. Built of accomplishments, plot twists and of course, setbacks, Odin’s Ravens’ is essentially setting up for the next book in the series. Despite the fact that it is mostly plot building, ‘Odin’s Ravens’ is still a good read. Much like in the first book, there is danger around every corner, and just as our heroes deal with one threat, another faces them shortly after. There is no rest for those who wish to successfully save the world! Despite their constant exertion, though, our gutsy team still has the time to make surprising revelations and uncover dark secrets. Everything is not as it seems, and ‘Odin’s Ravens’ gives readers a whole new view on their predicament. ‘Odin’s Ravens’ is the second book in the series, and while it is interesting, it can be frustrating to read as a stand-alone novel. During this book, the main characters’ quest continues, and they reencounter characters from the first book throughout their adventure. There are also many references made that would you would need to read the previous book to understand. Therefore, I recommend reading ‘Loki’s Wolves’ to understand ‘Odin’s Ravens’ thoroughly. The book is part of a series called ‘The Blackwell Pages’ and is similar to ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’. It contains your average quirky teenage heroes, a complicated, dangerous predicament, and some complementary mythology as the cherry on top. A good mix of fantasy, humor, and adventure, ‘The Blackwell Pages’ is definitely a series that I would recommend to readers who liked ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ or any combination of these genres.
