I think I may have to give this series a read again at some point. I think I wanted to like it a lot more than I actually liked it but I still liked it? Anyway, in our concluding volume of the Last Policeman trilogy Hank Palace decides that even though him and his sister have never really gotten along - and left on bad terms with Hank not believing her that the world could be saved - he wants to see her one more time before the asteroid known as Maia hits in a few days time. The atmosphere is now more important than the characters in this novel. We know Hank and we know how Hank is going to act, it's just a continuation of this thought experiment about the end of the world coming and there actually being no real way to stop it - depending on who you ask of course. What happens after impact is also really anyone's guess. Some people are planning to survive in case all life is not wiped out instantly. Others are resigned to the fact that they are not going to survive. People are going various levels of crazy with that knowledge. It basically ends up the way you think (or at least I think it does) and some issues are resolved and some really are not. The end of the world isn't much different than any other day after all.
