The writing seemed like Stephen King but, More short, morbid, and to the point. It was a great premise for a story. Purgatory was such a cool setting for a novel. Seeing the river of souls, all the gods and demons, and all the lore was SO cool. The main character was great too. Had sort of a western showdown sorta vibe to it. On top of all the cool divine characters, the book was accompanied by the author's detailed portraits. They were beautiful. The story was great, but it was short on a few character's side stories. Trish the wife, could have been given much more scenes. I generally like more complexity in a story, and with such a large pool of supernatural history to take from, I expected more depth. Despite this, I still really enjoyed the story. A few funnies too. I like when people are in hell, and then they say the lord's name in vain, or tell someone to go to hell. The thing that pissed me off most was how short the chapters were. Most were about two pages. and for every chapter, there was a blank page or two. So, over 100 of this books pages are blank. On top of that, the extreme short chapters meant less time for much needed elaboration. There were some typos too.
