I had such high hopes for this film - such a superb cast! - but I found it didn't really deliver emotionally. The war propaganda film the characters make had more impact in its five minutes than the rest of the film at large. Jeremy Irons was the highlight for me in his short cameo. Bill Nighy shines as usual, but even he isn't given the scope (or script) to really show his stuff. Of course he does the Bill Nighy twitch, so there is that to see. One big plus - for a change there is no actor portraying Churchill here. Seems like half of British Equity has taken a stab at the old man in the past decade alone. Heck in the past two years John Lithgow and Gary Oldman have played him. It's mad I tell you.
