I wanted to like this film because I am a fan of Hugh Bonneville from "Downton Abbey". This movie has the same flaw that ruined James Cameron's "Titanic". There is not enough pathos and drama happening in the real stories of the sinking of the Titanic and the independence of India and Pakistan, so we have to invent a stupid love story to appeal to the masses. We waste time on the boy and girl and the earth shaking events almost become a side story. In addition at one point I decided I was watching a Bollywood film with the inclusion of a dancing party to honor an engagement. Really???? Is there not enough political history, racial injustice, murder, and mayhem happening in India and the negotiations for independence to create an interesting story????? I just watched the 1987 film "The Last Viceroy" with Nicole Williamson which tells the history of India's independence after 300 years of British rule without the unnecessary, stupid fluff. Then suddenly according to this version, Churchill preordained the partition of India in 1945. By 1947 Churchill had not been prime minister for 2 years. I was so surprised by this disclosure that I did research and as far as I can tell the accusation, based upon a book written by a native Indian, is false. If you want to see a serious and engaging account of the independence of India choose a documentary or watch the 1987 film. Skip this sophomoric farce. Kristi & Abby Tabby
