Saw this classic a number of times and it's sunnier and less melancholic than Umbrellas of C. Did anyone mention that this is the only film in which Gene Kelly sang every word in French? Later on, Demy's widow Varda, in her bio, mention that Demy died of AIDS in his California period. For those who haven't seen any of Varda's films, check out The Gleaners & I, Cleo from 5 to 7 and Villages Visages, all available @ BPL.
