This is a gay love story, that only bullies and homophobes would not enjoy. For gay teens? Yes, but any teen will be able to relate to problems with bullies, relationships and identity. Did I say that it was for teens? Actually, I'm 62 and this is one of the best books that I have ever read. While it can be a page-turner, I chose to savor the story and enjoy the characters. I made the book last for several days, and every day, it put me in a positive frame of mind. I wanted to meet these fictional characters, despite their flaws, because of their strengths; their humanity. I would have appreciated having such a brilliant guide when I was 16. Most teens struggle with something during adolescense, and the message in this book is, that it will get better. No matter our age, each day we learn (if we are open to the messages from our friends and family -- even the bullies teach us). When our experiences are bad, and we may have to look for the good, there are still positive things to learn. In addition to sexuality there are strong messages about honesty, relationships, responsibility, and most importantly, friendship. The fact that one of the teens is East Indian, adds spice to the mix, and we are given a chance to learn about that culture. I am hoping that SPL will purchase two of her other books for young (and older) adults!
